This is the time of the year when it should be hot and sunny. Unfortunately there has been cold temperatures due to wind chill factors, and rain during May 2024 and the early part of June. So even if the temperatures haven't actually been that cool it has felt cold.

Most outdoor events have gone ahead despite the weather.

Some tips to help:

Some sheltered areas that people can move into if the weather is poor.

Tents or a nearby hall.

Not all events are lucky to have these on hand, but if you do they can help save the day as a back up plan.

If lots of people are parking on grass car parks, in fields and the ground is sodden then then it is possible that deep tyre grooves will appear in the ground. I have seen some horrible messes this summer where the ground has been water logged and the cars have sunk and in some cases getting stuck. So where possible consider directing traffic accordingly to help preserve the ground appearance.

Some of the best planned outdoor events have a lot of attractions and draw good crowds. I have found that dog shows at fetes and village days are becoming more popular. Indeed some of them have probably fifty to a hundred dogs attending, which means that that will bring at least a couple of people or a family with each dog, that may not have come to the fete otherwise.

A dog show is a clever way of increasing footfall.

The Premiership has finished for the season and the Euro football is starting soon, which may have an effect of turn out at some functions in the same way as Wembley tennis finals can make a significant impact to attendee's.

Event planning is the key to a successful event. I see some events so well organised that they seem effortless and some functions that have more difficulties due to the way they have been organised.

June is meant to be sunny, so lets hope the summer will get better.
